Day 2005
31 August 2005
Every
year, we celebrate Teachers' Day a day in advance on 31 August. Like in past
years, all students participated in a mass exercise in the morning, as part
of ACES day. ACES stands
for “All Students Exercising Simultaneously”. The
exercise was led by Ms Chai, a PE teacher.
Secondary 1 and 2 students were scheduled for 1 period of lessons, after
which, they proceeded to the school hall to enjoy the Teachers' Day concert.
Secondary 3, 4 and 5 students had to attend 3 periods of lessons before they
were treated to the second session of the concert. Students were dismissed
at 11:40am.
The
Teachers' Day concert featured Talentime participants, who danced, sang and
played music to entertain the teachers and students. This allows students to
express their creativity, and at the same time, it served as a way for them
to show their heartfelt thanks for their teachers. The hour long concert, organised
by Mrs Elene Wan, also included the Pledge for Teachers as well as a cake-cutting
ceremony at the end.
The Pledge for Teachers, written by the Ministry
of Education, reads, “We
the teachers of Singapore, pledge that we will be true in our mission to bring
out the best in our pupils. We will be exemplary in the discharge of duties
and responsibilities. We will guide our students to be good and useful citizens
of Singapore. We will continue to learn and pass on the love of learning to
our pupils. We will win the trust, support and co-operation of parents and
the community so as to enable us to achieve our mission.”
In the upper-secondary concert,
Mrs Sally Tang had the honour of slicing the cake. It symbolises the students'
appreciation for her. Mrs Sally Tang was persuaded to stay on by her students
because of her excellent teaching style and friendliness. Although she has
retired, she is now back with the school as a relief teacher.
Teachers' Day is on 01 September 2005, Thursday. It will be a school holiday
and students need not attend school on this day. However, the school General
Office will operate. School curriculum will resume on 02 September 2005,
Friday.
